Houston Rockets: When Rock Bottom Comes In A Win
By Duncan Smith
The Defense Is Indefensible
The Rockets’ defense took a grotesque turn for the worst on Friday against the Sixers. The Sixers scored more than 100 points for just the fourth time this season, and scored 11 more points than their previous high of 103 against the Toronto Raptors in a 119-103 loss on Nov. 11.
The Sixers hit 48.2 percent of their shots from the floor, which is well above their mark for the season of 41.6 percent, good for fourth-worst in the NBA. They shot 45.7 percent from long-range, which is better than their 31.7 percent mark for the season, sixth-worst league-wide.
The Sixers also set a franchise record with 16 three-pointers. The Sixers have been around for a long time, and this team is bad, so when the 2015-16 Philadelphia 76ers are setting offensive records against you, the problems you have can barely be measured.
Robert Covington (former Houston Rocket) scored 28 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the floor, including 6-for-9 from three-point range.
Isaiah Canaan (another former Rocket) scored 23 points, shooting 9-for-17 from the field and 4-for-10 from long-range.
You might hesitate to say that this defense is broken, but 16 games into the season the Rockets have the fourth-worst defense in the NBA, ahead of only the Milwaukee Bucks, New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Lakers.
This defense is in fact broken.
