Corey Brewer Was Awful

Ty Lawson has gotten the lion’s share of blame for this perplexing start for the Rockets, and rightfully so, but Corey Brewer has flown under the radar as the worst Rocket this season.

In Friday’s game, Brewer was minus-9 in 22 minutes of action (let me say this again, an NBA player was minus-9 against the Philadelphia 76ers in an actual sanctioned NBA game), and he fouled out. Not only did he foul out, but his final foul was on Hollis Thompson in the act of shooting a three-pointer with 6.2 seconds left and the Rockets up four points.

We have to dig deep to find words to describe the lack of situational awareness that could have caused such an incredible lapse of judgment. It’s inexcusable, and he could have actually cost the Rockets the game.

I’ll emphasize this, the Houston Rockets could have been the first W of the season for the Philadelphia 76ers because Corey Brewer turned his brain off with six seconds to go in the game.

As it happens, it didn’t come back to bite the Rockets. Corey Brewer better be thanking his lucky stars over it.

Other than that, Brewer hit four of his five free throws and was 1-for-1 from the field, so not all of his numbers were abysmal at least.
