10. The NBA Rookie Challenge
Jason Richardson wasted no time proving he was worthy of being the fifth pick in the 2001 NBA Draft, averaging 14.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game en route to an NBA All-Rookie First Team selection. When he dropped 40 points on the Sacramento Kings in his first season, it was no secret this kid could put the ball in the hole.
At the Rookie Challenge in 2002, Richardson got the chance to show people outside the Bay Area what he was capable of. With 26 points (11-of-18 shooting) and six rebounds, J-Rich took home Rookie MVP honors as his team won, 103-97.
Richardson’s team won once again in 2003 when he returned as a sophomore, putting up 31 points, seven three-pointers, six rebounds and five steals. And as if that weren’t enough, J-Rich cemented his status as one of the league’s up-and-coming primetime entertainers when he welcomed Carlos Boozer to the league with a little razzle-dazzle play that might as well have been right out of NBA Street:
