Before we get to our actual top five, something needs to be addressed: you almost never want to draft according to need. Even if it creates positional overlap, you almost always want to try and take the best player on the board. But if any team could afford to draft by need this year, it’s the reigning NBA champions.

  • Bearing that in mind, Golden State’s desire to add some perimeter shooting off the bench means second round prospects like Tyler Harvey or Michael Frazier II could be in play far sooner than expected.

Harvey, a 6’4″ shooting guard from Eastern Washington, led the NCAA in scoring last season at 23.1 points per game. He shot 43.1 percent from three-point range on an absurd 9.3 attempts per game and his ability to shoot off the bounce is eerily reminiscent of Stephen Curry. With his high basketball IQ and elite shooting touch, this would be a great fit for both sides.

As for Frazier, he’s more of a spot-up shooter. But the former Florida Gator shot 38 percent from downtown last season on 5.8 attempts per game and is considered one of the better second round options for teams in need of perimeter shooting. He’s a little undersized for the shooting guard position at 6’5″, but he’s a great athlete and is lethal in catch-and-shoot situations.

If this is the route the Warriors take, Harvey seems like the better fit between the two as Steph Curry Lite. But even though there will probably be superior options at No. 30, we can’t rule this avenue out just yet.
