Washington Wizards Host 3rd Pre-Draft Workout
With just a little more than two weeks until the NBA draft, the Washington Wizards continue to host potential players for pre-draft workouts. The list of players who will be working out for the Wizards Wednesday are:

- Traevon Jackson, 6’2″, 206 lbs, Wisconsin
- Antoine Mason, 6’2″, 216 lbs, Auburn
- Gabriel Olaseni, 6’10”, 225 lbs, Iowa
- M.J. Rhett, 6’9″, 240 lbs, Ole Miss
- Satnam Singh, 7’2″, 290 lbs, India
- Maurice Walker, 6’10”, 250 lbs, Minnesota
Of all the names listed above, the common college basketball fan would probably be familiar with Traevon Jackson. He played for head coach Bo Ryan at Wisconsin the past four years and was a huge part in why the program has become so successful. The son of 14-year NBA veteran Jim Jackson, Traevon is a facilitating point guard who also showed spurts of being able to score as well.
Jackson missed most of the season due to a fractured foot, but was able to be a senior leader to the Badgers, who lost in the NCAA tournament final. His name has not appeared on any mock drafts; with his lack of being excellent in one particular skill, he will probably end up being undrafted.
Antoine Mason is a scoring point guard who played for Niagara University his first three years before transferring to Auburn. In his junior season, he led Niagara in scoring as he averaged 25.6 points per game. Although his scoring averaged dropped to 14.4 once he transferred, his three-point percentage increased to 40 percent.
Mason’s name has been absent from all mock drafts, and with his lack of distributing at the point guard position, the Wizards will more than likely not take him in the draft.
Gabriel Olaseni is another four-year player coming out of Iowa. Even though his size makes him attractive for a big man, he wasn’t as effective on the glass as he could have been. His senior year, he averaged 4.8 rebounds per game while only averaging 18.6 minutes.
He doesn’t have the athletic ability to play on the perimeter, which is what the Wizards need in their search for a stretch-4.
M.J. Rhett is a big man who transferred to Ole Miss from Tennessee State. He is a strong finisher around the rim, but at just 6’9″, it would be difficult for him playing against bigs in the league. Averaging just 7.4 points and 4.6 rebounds a game this year, he will not be the answer the Wizards are looking for in the second round.
Satnam Singh is the guy in this group that will catch your eye in this group, mostly because of the fact he is 7’2″ and 290 pounds. There isn’t much on his history, but at just 19 years old, it is possible an NBA team takes a chance on him and assign him to the D-League to mature. DraftExpress reported that Singh played for IMG Academy in Florida.
He averaged 9.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks in less than 20 minutes per game, according to an article in Sports Illustrated.

Maurice Walker averaged 11.8 points and 6.7 rebounds this past season for the Golden Gophers. At 6’10” and 250 pounds, Walker has a big body that can hang physically with those in the NBA, but athletically is where he would struggle tremendously. His name has not been mentioned by any NBA teams to be on their draft board, so Walker will more than likely go undrafted.
If he could improve his athleticism and quickness, he may be able to turn into a big man that provides some minutes off the bench,
The Wizards have yet to work out any big named players in the draft. The only prospect that they have worked out who has been projected to be picked by them is Jerian Grant. Before Wizards fans start to worry, there are still 16 days until the draft, but the Wizards can’t afford to not have players such as Bobby Portis, Kevon Looney, and Trey Lyles come in for a workout.
Even though we have seen in previous drafts teams take players who they haven’t invited to a workout, it would give the fans a feeling of hope to see the front office make such decisions. Not much will be made of this group today, so watch out in the next few days if one of the better players in the draft make their way to D.C. for a workout.
