With the offseason yet to truly begin, many rebuilding teams such as the Orlando Magic are eagerly waiting for the NBA draft to come round so they can add to their rosters. In the lead up to this event, teams will begin to seek out potential trade partners as they try and position themselves in the best possible way to become a better team next season.

More from Orlando Magic

All of this, and we haven’t even spoken about the potential to lure marquee free agents to new destinations as well.

Until then, however, let’s take a more detailed look at the players currently on the Magic team, in a game I like to call play or pass. The rules are simple, we evaluate what the player has done for the team during his tenure with the team, before deciding if, in an ideal world, Orlando should keep them for as long as possible, or cast them away at the next opportunity.

Financial implications don’t play a part in this (for example, as well as being a talented point guard, Elfrid Payton‘s rookie contract makes him appealing to this team financially as well).

Likewise, potential bad contracts won’t be held against players and we don’t take that into consideration if suggesting that a player would be better suited to a team already in danger of going over the salary cap. With that in mind, let’s take a look at Payton’s time in Orlando so far.
