John Wall was a crucial component of the Washington Wizards series against the Atlanta Hawks, but was among analysts’ conversation most of the time because of his uncertain game statuses with his injury.

Early on in the series, Wall fell on his left hand and this resulted in five non-displaced fractures. He would close out this game, but miss the next two, and return in Game 5 for the rest of the series with some tape on his hand.

Wall’s concern throughout the series was the swelling that took place in his hand. The swelling eventually went down, and this is why he was able to eventually return.

While most players as of late seem to be turning to surgery for recovery, Wall is not taking this path. Talking to reporters in an, “exit interview,” for the season, Wall explained that he would be heading to Cleveland, Ohio, in order to work on rehabbing his hand.

  • In this same interview, Wall commented on the issue of guys going after his hand, after some reports came out that Dennis Schroder was telling his teammates to, “go for his hand.” Wall admitted he expected stuff like this from his opponents.

Wall also went on to tell reporters that he plans on being as removed as possible from the remaining NBA games, even though he will be in the city of the Eastern Conference Finals’ first two games. He appeared to be quite dismal about the Wizards getting knocked out.

He’s going for a consultation, but it’s looking like he will be doing a lot of the same as far as what he was doing throughout the Hawks series to rehab his hand and to get the swelling down.

The issue with surgery is often that there is still a long recovery period after the surgery is completed, even if it is 100% successful. Since Wall was able to play even with this hand injury, it looks like avoiding surgery, if possible would be the best path.
