5. Scott Brooks

The Oklahoma City Thunder made a somewhat surprising move by firing head coach Scott Brooks. Brooks spent seven seasons at the helm in Oklahoma City, boasting a win percentage of .620 with three Western Conference Finals appearances and one NBA Finals trip to his name.

He’s not the top candidate, but Brooks will almost definitely be interviewed at some point.

Brooks has his flaws as an offensive strategist, and that could lead the Pelicans away from him. He struggled to draw up plays late in games, and that’s part of why Monty Williams was relieved of his duties.

Nevertheless, a coach with a relatively recent NBA Finals appearance under his belt is worth considering.

Brooks is an outstanding defensive coach who helped the Thunder become one of the true powerhouses in the Western Conference. Even when the offense falters, the defense was there to keep OKC in games.

With New Orleans building around Anthony Davis, defense should take precedence.
