There isn’t much on the court that Atlanta Hawks power forward Paul Millsap can’t do. He’s strong from the post, has a good face-up game, is an excellent passer, competes on defense and spaces the floor from beyond the arc.

It wouldn’t be the sexiest of acquisitions, but the Los Angeles Lakers should have Millsap on their radar.

Millsap has made consecutive All-Star Game appearances, and not many expect him to slow down. He’s found a niche in the NBA that very few players are capable of filling: that of the do-it-all big man.

Millsap had the chance to sign an extension with the Hawks, but will instead pursue a big contract in free agency.

In other words, he’s available.

Millsap helped the Utah Jazz reach the playoffs in the Western Conference, meaning he’s more than just an Eastern Conference star. He’s a genuinely proficient player with the potential to be the high-post playmaker Kobe Bryant teams have always possessed.

Millsap may not be Lamar Odom or Pau Gasol, but he could be close to a hybrid of the two with the proper personnel around him.
