5. Push The Tempo

When the Los Angeles Clippers have pushed the tempo in this series, they’ve put themselves in a position to win games. In their Game 1 blowout victory, they outscored the Spurs 23-12 in transition points. In the Game 2 overtime loss, the Clippers held a narrow edge in fast break points, 15-13, but even though they lost the game, they were still in a position to win.

As for the Clippers’ Game 3 blowout loss? They were outscored 13-8 in transition. Game 4 was a bit of an anomaly, with the Clippers once again outscored in transition, 16-11, but they still won in the end. In a devastating Game 5 loss, Los Angeles held a definitive 25-11 edge here and were one goaltend away from winning.

In Game 6 last night, the Clippers showed great resiliency, but a lot of it had to do with outscoring the Spurs 18-2 in transition.

In wins this series, the Clippers have outscored the Spurs by 7.3 points per game in the fast break column. In their losses, that number has dropped to a +3.7 edge in transition points. In a high-pressure Game 7, against the defending champs who have been here before, Lob City needs every advantage possible to win.

Pushing the tempo, even with the Clippers so reliant on their starters playing heavy minutes, is something this team needs to do at home.
