Why They’ll Win It All

While casual fans may not be able to name more than this team’s starters, their entire roster has a cohesiveness that just works. Of course all players need to be playing to their full potential in order for Toronto to put fear into the better teams in this league, but nevertheless this roster has talent right the way through it.

  • Williams fills it up off the bench, and has been one of the best signings of the season after his move from the Atlanta Hawks. Amir Johnson, James Johnson and Terrence Ross bring a mix of hard nosed play and athleticism. Both of these attributes are important in a playoff run. Jonas Valanciunas divides opinion, with some (including myself) feeling he’s failed to live up to his potential.

Nevertheless, though, he gives this team an inside scorer on the offensive end. So much so in fact, that despite this team’s clear problems right now, they’re still the third-best offense in the league (108.3 points per game). They can score when they need to, even if some of their possessions look like a slog when you watch them play. They have weapons, and a bench that comes in and keeps the game ticking over nicely.

This allows the starters to come back into the game and finish opponents off.
