Con: Clearing A Roster Spot

The Warriors wouldn’t have to give McGee much since his salary is already being paid by the Sixers, but they would have to clear a roster spot since they already have 15 players on the team.

The Dubs didn’t make a move at the 2015 NBA Trade Deadline, but they did sign James Michael McAdoo to a rest-of-season contract. The only other expendable players on the outside of the rotation are Ognjen Kuzmic, Brandon Rush and maybe Justin Holiday. Would the Dubs be willing to cut one of those guys to clear room for JaVale McGee?

That’s a hard question to answer, but depending on who the front office chose to get rid of in that scenario, there’s always the possibility such a move would upset the team chemistry.

If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Clearing a roster spot now would be sending someone home. Even if that player didn’t have a major impact on the court, there’s something to be said for camaraderie in the locker room. No matter who the Dubs sent home, there’d be a potential risk there.
