Best NBA Players of the Week: A Historic Week for One Member
By Greg Chin
Shooting Guard: Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors)
33.0 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 3.5 APG, 0.5 BPG, 2.3 SPG
What a week for Golden State Warriors’ shooting guard Klay Thompson. On Friday night, he put up the best numbers of his fledging NBA career when he scored 52 points, including an NBA-record 37 points in the third quarter. He became just the second player in NBA history to have 50-plus points, five assists, and 10 three-pointers – the other being his teammate Stephen Curry.
Outside of that game, Klay had an impressive week as well. He averaged 33 points per game for the week, while shooting 56.4 percent from the field. Since signing his near-max contract extension during the offseason, Klay has improved in leaps and bounds. His offensive game has improved, and he is no longer just a three-point shooter.
Even Magic Johnson had high praise for the Splash Brother. Not a bad week, I’d say.
