Derrick Favors Is Serious

With all due respect to Gordon Hayward, the most important player on the Jazz is Derrick Favors. The 6’10 power forward is the engine that makes the Jazz go.

His numbers on the season are 15.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and he’s shooting 55 percent from the field. Even though his numbers aren’t 20-10 yet, his impact is that of a high-caliber power forward in the NBA.

Favors not only does damage on the block with the help of the pick and roll, he also does an excellent job of using the pick and pop to get jump shots.

People look at stretch 4s as athletic big man who can space the floor, but for some reason the NBA hasn’t figured out that Favors is one as well. His field goal percentage gives him more than enough reason to shoot jump shots. From 15-19 feet Favors is shooting 50 percent from the field.

The Jazz should give thanks for Derrick Favors because once they start giving him more than 12 shots a game, his game is going to blossom in a hurry.

The only time that Favors got more than 20 shots in a game, he finished with 32 points, nine rebounds, one assist, two steals, two blocks and shot 54 percent from the field in a win against the Phoenix Suns.
