CLEVELAND CAVALIERS

The Cavaliers are on the opposite side of things as it relates to their team defense. They’ve been horrific, allowing 104.3 points per game, good for 24th in the NBA. Their defensive rating is just 110.8, which is 26th in the league. The last NBA champion to have a defense that bad? You’ll be searching for a long time.

Part of the big problem for the Cavs is that they’re allowing too many easy shots. Opponents are shooting 48.4 percent (28th in NBA) and from inside the arc, they’re making 53.6 percent (29th). Part of the reason for that is LeBron James and company simply aren’t quick enough on their rotations and the perimeter combo of Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters has been really bad defensively.

Brewer wouldn’t step in to take minutes away from LeBron, but he could slip into the shooting guard spot. A lineup of Irving/Brewer/Shawn Marion/LeBron/Kevin Love would be an improvement defensively, though it would be a change from the lineups coach Blatt has been employing thus far.
