HOUSTON ROCKETS

The Rockets are the No. 1 team in the league based on defensive rating (97.7) and are No. 2 in the league in scoring defense (91.6). While Brewer wouldn’t step right in and garner a ton of minutes, he’d be a terrific backup and would provide great depth behind Trevor Ariza at the small forward.

Brewer wouldn’t be able to provide the same kind of 3-point shooting that Ariza can, but the team wouldn’t suffer a huge defensive dropoff when Ariza needs a rest. Currently, they’ve been playing rookie Kostas Papanikolaou, but they’re disenchanted with his horrific 29.9 percent shooting from the field and his penchant for turning the ball over (3.4 per-36 minutes).

The Rockets also have veteran Francisco Garcia on the roster, but the 33-year-old isn’t going to be able to provide the kind of defense the Rockets are looking for.

Bottom line, Brewer makes a very good team that much better. It’s a proactive move aimed towards taking advantage of their championship window.
