New Orleans Pelicans – Oct. 6

Preseason kicks off with the visit of the New Orleans Pelicans to the Highlight Factory. New Orleans got the better of the Hawks in their only two meetings last season, and in many ways they provide a challenging matchup for Atlanta.

The sheer size and skill of Anthony Davis has been a problem for the Hawks, who aren’t the biggest or best rebounding team, and this time around the matchup has only grown more difficult.

The Pelicans acquisition of Omer Asik from the Houston Rockets means that they will enter the new season with one of the most potentially dominant frontcourts in the entire NBA. Much like they did repeatedly against Indiana in the playoffs last season, the Hawks will need to stretch the floor, and draw the Pelicans bigs away from the rim if they are to have any success in this matchup.
