Rebuild

It seems strange to suggest that this could be the move that forces the Pistons to rebuild, because it begs the question of whether this current team was every actually “built.” The Pistons in their current construction are paying a lot of money for a team that is falling below even mediocrity, and has little upside.

Whether Monroe’s decision just leads the Pistons to life without him, or possibly sees Smith exit too, it’s time to shake things up and start again. With Stan Van Gundy at the helm, the Pistons have an opportunity to build a team from the ground up. As a base they have one of the game’s greatest minds to coach, and a young center who could be the face of the franchise for years to come. That’s a nice situation that the Pistons shouldn’t waste by holding on to an underperforming squad.
