Atlanta Hawks: Cartier Martin 2013-14 Season Review
By Adam McGee
Defense
Another area in which Martin’s size was useful to him is on the defensive end of the floor. The Texas native’s length was more than enough to make life uncomfortable for smaller guards on their way to the rim.
Martin does a great job of being actively engaged and focused on the defensive end. He always seems to be ready to put his body on the line and take a charge, and Martin generally, showed good awareness and understanding within the Hawks defensive concepts too.
Martin was an active figure on defense overall, averaging 1.1 steals per 36 minutes, and the numbers point to him being one of the Hawks better defenders. When Martin was on the floor, the Hawks allowed 103.8 points per 100 possessions, giving Martin one of the best defensive ratings of the team’s rotation players.
