Atlanta Hawks: Shelvin Mack 2013-14 Season Review
By Adam McGee
Efficiency
Efficiency was undoubtedly the key to Mack’s season, and the success he has enjoyed as a Hawk. With the raw and unpredictable young German Dennis Schroeder still learning, Mack’s calming influence was a big plus for Mike Budenholzer off the bench.
As a consequence of frequently having the ball in their hands, point guard’s are always going to have turnovers, the most important thing for any team is that they are kept to a minimum though. Throughout the season, Mack has been one of the league leaders in assist to turnover ratio, allowing the Hawks to be confident that they wouldn’t waste many possession with him on the floor.
Mack had a remarkable assist to turnover ratio of 3.04 for the season. This placed him in the top 10 in the NBA of guys who played 15 minutes or more in more than 50 games, something which should be a real badge of honor for a young guard.
