Atlanta Hawks: Shelvin Mack 2013-14 Season Review
By Adam McGee
Shooting
Mack isn’t always the most consistent shooter, but he’s streaky enough that he can get on a roll and become a real force. In many ways Mack’s offensive game represents that of the modern NBA point guard. Although he’s not going to explode to the rim to dunk over opponents, he can do pretty much anything else.
The Kentucky native can create for himself off the dribble, whether going to the rim, or pulling up for a jumper. He has got a solid shooting stroke that makes him a reliable option in catch and shoot scenarios, even from behind the arc. Mack is also fast enough that he can blow by defenders to get to the rim and lay it in.
Mack made lots of vital shots for the Hawks this year, but during the offseason, he might able to work on his shot selection a little more. For the season Mack shot 41.7 percent from the field and 33.7 percent from 3-point range. There’s nothing wrong with Mack’s stroke, and there’s no reason why with a little work he couldn’t bump both of those figures up by 5 percent.
