 Rockets Outwork Spurs Inside

Howard had himself a first half to remember making all six of his shots for 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for his 47th double-double of the year. Aron Baynes, who ruffled Dwight’s feathers last postseason when Howard was a Los Angeles Laker, mainly guarded Houston’s center one-on-one on Monday.

A few plusses to take away from Baynes’ defense was Dwight was limited to six shot attempts the first 24 minutes without ever attempting a free throw. Aron’s buddy Duncan did his best, too, with 10 points and seven boards during the first half to keep San Antonio close.

Unfortunately for the Spurs their interior offense was still outscored by Houston 32-12 through 24 minutes and 60-42 over the long haul. Both teams died by the 3 all night combining to go 8-of-39, including 2-of-21 from long range during the first half.
