Conclusion

Most of Zeller’s problems are caused by his strength–or lack thereof. Gaining 20 to 30 pounds won’t turn him into an All-Star center. His athleticism is also sub-par, so he needs to improve his footwork as well. His attempts at developing a jump shot have gone nowhere. For a team trying to nab a playoff spot, Zeller is dead weight. Why not send him to the D-League? He will be able to develop his post game and jumper while hitting the weights. Third-year center Bismack Biyombo is getting as many minutes as Zeller. That needs to change quickly. Will the Bobcats swallow some pride and admit that Zeller needs lots of work? That talent is there, no doubt about it. Zeller could turn into a serviceable NBA center, but being bullied night in and night out by stronger players might not be the best way to approach his development.
