4.8 fouls per 36 minutes

What does a high number of fouls indicate? He certainly isn’t averaging 4.8 “smart” fouls per 36 minutes. To me a high foul rate, especially for a NBA center, indicates bad defense. Fouls are usually called when a player is late on his rotation and needs to make up for the lost time. Another potential possibility for a high foul rate is playing too physical. Zeller is clearly overmatched physically by NBA centers. The Andre Drummonds and Dwight Howards of the world weigh about 20 or 30 pounds more than Zeller while being shorter. Could Zeller be playing too physical to help make up for his lack of strength? That is a certainly a possibility.
