Daily NBA Fix 1-26-14: Ross The Boss In A Loss
By Phil Watson
UTAH JAZZ 104, Washington Wizards 101
Enes Kanter scored 24 points on 11-of-13 shooting and the Jazz came back from 13 points down to beat the Wizards, who—stop me if you’ve heard this before—were once again denied a chance to climb above .500. John Wall banked in a 3-pointer with 3.6 seconds left to get Washington to within one at 102-101, but Gordon Hayward made a pair of free throws and Wall missed at the buzzer. Hayward finished with 16 points for Utah and Alec Burks added 15, while Derrick Favors had 14 rebounds and 11 points. Trevor Ariza led the Wizards with 23 points, Nene Hilario added 19, Marcin Gortat had 11 rebounds to go with 14 points and Bradley Beal had three steals and scored 14 points.
PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS 115, Minnesota Timberwolves 104
LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard hit key baskets in a fourth quarter spurt that gave the Trail Blazers a 17-point lead and they never looked back en route to their 33rd win of the season, matching last year’s total. The balanced Portland attack was led by Aldridge’s 21 points, while Wesley Matthews added 18, Mo Williams tossed in 16 and Robin Lopez notched 15 points and 10 rebounds. Kevin Martin scored 30 to lead Minnesota, Nikola Pekovic had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Kevin Love had 15 points and 13 rebounds, but was just 4-for-12 on the night. Ricky Rubio dished 11 assists and scored 10 points.
