Daily NBA Fix 1-25-14: Heroics Abound, But Carmelo Anthony Steals The Show
By Phil Watson
New Orleans Pelicans 103, DETROIT PISTONS 101
Eric Gordon’s floater in the lane with 1.9 seconds left gave the Pelicans the win and the Pistons collectively lost their minds—failing to call for a timeout and instead settling for Brandon Jennings’ halfcourt desperation heave. Detroit lost despite putting together a 30-4 run in the third quarter that put them up by 16 points. Anthony Morrow led the Pelicans with 21 points, while Gordon and Austin Rivers each tallied 15 for NOLA. Jennings had 28 points and Andre Drummond went for 21 points and 20 rebounds for the Pistons.
Los Angeles Clippers 112, CHICAGO BULLS 95
The Bulls couldn’t stop Blake Griffin, who went for 26 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists—all team highs—as the Clippers cruised at the United Center. The Clips blistered the Bulls for 41 first-quarter points and then held off every Chicago run. Jamal Crawford scord 19 points, J.J. Redick added 18, Darren Collison tossed in 17 and DeAndre Jordan finished with 10 points and 12 boards. Carlos Boozer had 22 for the Bulls, Taj Gibson scored 18, Mike Dunleavy tossed in 17 and Joakim Noah had 12 points and 13 rebounds—his 15th straight game with double-digit boards.
