Cleveland Cavaliers Weekly: Rough Stretch Continues for the Cavs
Saturday, Jan. 4 at Nets, Loss 89-82
The Cavaliers beat the Nets on opening night at home for their first win of the season. On Saturday, the Cavs traveled to Brooklyn only to have the Nets avenge that earlier loss. Playing again without Kyrie Irving, the team struggled on offense. Once again, as is the case with so many of their losses, poor shooting plagued the Cavs. They went only 36.7 percent from the field and for the season are shooting 42 percent, worst in the NBA.
Dion Waiters, still coming off the bench despite Irving’s injury, led the team with 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting. Matthew Dellavadova also provided a spark off the bench, knocking down four 3-pointers on the way to 13 points. While they only lost by seven, this game was rather ugly for the Cavs from the start. A third quarter rally gave them a small lead at one point, after trailing by 13 at the half, but the Nets generally controlled this game.
