Thursday, Jan. 2 vs. Magic, Win 87-81 (OT)

It took overtime against the lowly Orlando Magic to finally snap the six-game losing streak. To say Varejao was a monster on the boards is an understatement. He grabbed 25 rebounds … 25!! Anchored by Varejao, the Cavs outrebounded the Magic 59-49. For the second straight game, Varejao led the team in scoring, this time posting 18 points. Tristan Thompson also ended the game with a double double, contributing ten points and 16 rebounds. In total, five Cavaliers reached double figures.

The Cavs shot worse than the Magic, 34.4 percent compared to 38.1 percent. They managed to eke out a victory, however, due to the number of second chance points. They attempted 12 more shots than the Magic, which helped cover up their shooting deficiencies. They also hit seven more free throws, taking advantage of a poor night from the line by Orlando, which went only 10-for-18 as a team.
