What else could go wrong for the Cleveland Cavaliers?

The Cleveland Cavaliers got the news that Kyrie Irving no longer wants to be on the team. With everything in turmoil with the team, what can they do now?

Welcome to another edition of “As the Cleveland Cavaliers turn.”

Just when it couldn’t get any worse, it did. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Kyrie Irving wants to be traded from the Cavaliers. What’s his reason?  He wants to be the focal point of a team, and not be second to LeBron James.

What a poor, selfish attitude to have.

What player wouldn’t want to play with the best overall player in the NBA? A player that helped  him get his first championship? A player that was his mentor, and tried to show him what it takes to be a leader and take his game to the next level?

Apparently Irving feels that way.

Also according to Windhorst in the report, James was devastated that Irving felt this way. Allegedly, he’s known for a few days that he wanted to leave, but the public finally found it out on Friday.

It just doesn’t make any sense. Most players would do anything to play with James. I know it hasn’t shown so far this offseason, but it’s hard to make moves when the team is hamstrung financially with bad contracts.

Another note from the situation by Windhorst: Irving had requested a trade after winning the NBA Finals last season, but he took it back. He really believes he is ready to be a star in the league.

I’m all for a player having the alpha dog mentality. Every athlete should have it. But when they’re in a great situation as Irving is, it’s questionable at best. Why would a player decide to go to a mediocre situation when he could contend for championships every year?

Maybe I’m just getting old, and not accepting of the “new day” in the NBA currently.

First everybody wants to go to the Western Conference, now it’s about being a star when the situation is a great one.

Irving named a few teams he would want to get traded to. They were the San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat and…wait for it…New York Knicks.  Yes, there is actually a star player that wants to play for the Knicks.

While that’s clever of him, he doesn’t have a say in his destination. He still has at least two years left on his five-year, $94 million deal.

The thing that I found the funniest was that the Cavs finally promoted interim general manager Koby Altman to full-time GM an hour after the Irving news broke. The whole time it’s been a slow process, but immediately, the news breaks, and he’s the guy.

It seems very “peculiar” to me.

The whole thing makes no sense to me. There’s obviously more to the story than we all know, and there will likely be more coming out in the upcoming days.

There have been numerous trade scenarios on social media of how Irving could get to other teams. I’m not about to get into them because I believe this will be resolved before it gets any worse.

Chicago Bulls and Ohio native Ron Harper is already trying to reach out to him and owner Dan Gilbert. It just seems like there is little communication among anybody within the team.

I don’t know if it’s because of egos, or what the issue is, but everybody needs to come together and talk about a way to keep everything civil.

I don’t think his decision had anything to do with James’ uncertainty to commit to the team beyond the upcoming season.

Let’s put this to rest. James is not leaving the Cavaliers to go to a team rebuilding in the Los Angeles Lakers. He’s stated numerous times he wants to get paid his worth. After 2018, he’ll be able to command the biggest contract in NBA history.

  • Stephen Curry signed a five-year, $201 million deal. James Harden followed that up by getting the largest contract in NBA history by signing a four-year, $228 million extension. Can you imagine what James is going to get?

This is the only team that can give him that, and I can assure you he’s not taking a pay cut for anybody at his age. He’s going to earn every penny of it. So enough with the stupid and brash statements about James leaving.

It’s not happening. He will be with the Cavs now and the foreseeable future.

I hope Irving realizes that being a star isn’t all it’s cracked up to be at times. For example, he was the star of the team from 2011-14, and it didn’t turn out well. They were 78-152 with him leading the team.

I understand he didn’t have much talent around him, but a true star brings out the best in what they have. James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, etc. all did it.

Currently, when Irving could have taken over the team, and shown he was the guy, in three seasons when James has been out, the Cavs are 4-23. This is with much better players and talent around him.

So fans are supposed to believe that he can go elsewhere and carry a team by himself?  Nonsense.

Somebody needs to tell him to grow up, and recognize the opportunity that many players would love to have right now. He’s on a team that can represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals for the next five or six years.

    It should be a no-brainer.

The news makes me ill along with all the other Cavs fans, but I do believe this will get resolved in the upcoming days, and the team can finally focus on next season, and competing for championship No. 2.
