The New York Knicks have had an offseason full of public embarrassment and questionable decisions. Steve Mills is at the heart of it all.

Steve Mills is an accomplished professional with an impeccable academic history. He has managed billions of dollars, led massive marketing campaigns and is the kind of guy you want running your business. However, Mills is not an NBA-caliber team president and wasn’t even a mediocre general manager for the New York Knicks.

Steve Mills had a 37-45 record in his last stint as team president and had a direct hand in the Phil Jackson debacle as his GM. And yet, Marc Berman of the New York Post reported on Monday that the Knicks will hire Mills as the next team president.

There has been no indication in Mills’ history that he is good at managing or building a professional basketball team. His record as the general manager the last three years is 80-166, with numerous embarrassments in that time.

For any business, certain indicators help them know who to hire, who not to hire and how to evaluate candidates. All indications within the New York Knicks reveals Steve Mills is not team president or GM material.

For the last 18 years or so, Mills has been in the James Dolan business family. Without those ties to Madison Square Garden, there is no reason to think he would be a team president. A few indicators show how we know Steve Mills has no idea what he’s doing.
