LeBron James became the youngest player in league history to score 27,000 career points, accomplishing the feat before the age of 32. While his list of career achievements continues to grow, his steady contributions makes him an ideal option for FanDuel NBA play.

The play was a simple one.

The Cleveland Cavaliers found a way to get the ball into the hands of LeBron James on the perimeter, isolating him against a single defender. As he had done so many times before, James took two jab steps, then launched a 3-pointer over the outstretched arms of his defender.

The 3-point shot only came into contract with the bottom of the net during its trajectory. As it fell through the net, the career point tally for LeBron James surpassed 27,000, making him the first player in league history to accomplish the feat before the age of 32.

In league history, only nine other players have reached 27,000 points for their career.

If James manages to post 21.3 points per game for the final 74 games of the year, he could move past Elvin Hayes, Moses Malone and Shaquille O’Neal into seventh place on the all-time scoring list.

Following his 27-point outing in Washington, his third game with 25 or more points this season, James remains 11,367 points shy of the all-time scoring record held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Abdul-Jabbar averaged 24.6 points per game during his 20 seasons in the league and reached the 27,000-point mark 28 games faster than James.

Accumulating points isn’t as much of a priority this season, as evidenced by his 17 shots per game. The only time James has ever taken fewer field goal attempts came during his final two seasons in Miami.

More from Hoops Habit

As James embarks on his 14th season in the league, the way he is accumulating points continues to evolve.

James has made 27 shots at the rim, four more shots than he has converted from everywhere else on the floor combined this season.

To help alleviate the lack of size in the Cavaliers rotation, James has pursued missed shots from his own team much more frequently this season, resulting in 1.6 offensive rebounds per game, the second highest of his career.

Thursday night in Washington marked the first time all season the 6-foot-9 forward failed to grab an offensive rebound in eight games.

Collecting offensive rebounds for easy scoring attempts has become a necessity, as the isolation play James used to register his 27,000th career point hasn’t been as effective this year.

As the led Cleveland to its first title in franchise history, 15.8 of the total points scored by James came off an isolation play. The 302 points he totaled off isolations were the fourth most in the league.

Of the 187 points he has scored this season, only 20 have come off an isolation play, accounting for just 10.7 percent of his scoring. The shooting percentage for James has dropped 9.5 percent from a year ago off isolation plays.

Even with a somewhat reduced role in the offense, with Kyrie Irving leading Cleveland with 20.9 shot attempts per game, James is still an elite FanDuel NBA performer, averaging 23.4 points, 9.3 assists and 9.0 rebounds per game.

James Harden and Russell Westbrook are the only other players averaging at least eight rebounds and eight assists per game this year.

Even as James continues to adapt his game, he should be included in any FanDuel NBA lineup.
