Jason Williams is the latest to join the ‘I dislike Charles Barkley club’. We’re hesitant to use the word ‘hate’ since Barkley, the player, has the utmost respect of anyone who watched the game during the late 1980s and 1990s. But there are more than a few who dislike Barkley’s outspoken ways.

Charles Barkley, the analyst, is a polarizing figure. There are those who hang by his every word and those who genuinely despise the Hall-of-Famer.

Jason Williams, who won a championship with Miami Heat in 2006, is clearly siding with the latter.

More from NBA

Williams made a name for himself with his flashy passes and elite handles. But White Chocolate was also a certified trash talker. In the early 2000s, he allegedly shouted racist slurs to an Asian American fan at Oakland’s Oracle Arena. During his stint with Memphis Grizzles, Williams screamed in a journalist’s ear before snatching away his pen.

The point guard continues to speak his mind. Last week, he called Barkley “a loser” during a Q&A session with Did You See That.

When asked about Kevin Durant’s decision to join the Golden State Warriors, Williams went off about Barkley’s recent criticism of the 2013-14 MVP. Barkley had opined that Durant was jumping on the Warriors “gravy train” while adding that he, too, could have “cheated his way to a championship” if star players were prepared to join hands during his heydays.

"“I mean all these guys Barkley and them talking about oh they wouldn’t have done it, well they was never free agents back in the day…like they didn’t have the choice. Nobody wanted his a** (Barkley) on their team because he was a loser. So that’s what I think about that,” said Williams."

Incidentally, Barkley formed a super-team with fellow Hall-of-Famers Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler when traded to the Houston Rockets in the summer of 1996.

Granted, Barkley and Olajwon were 33. Drexler was 34. But it was a super-team nonetheless. ESPN pulled out a quote from July 1996, a month before Barkley left Phoenix for Houston.

“The best thing about it would be getting the chance to play with Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler. We would be very formidable.”

Former MVPs Barkley and Olajuwon played four seasons together. Drexler called it a day in 1998.

Williams is entitled to criticize Barkley but calling Sir Charles “a loser” is a stretch. Barkley revolutionized the power forward position with his ability to run up the floor like a guard. But that’s the beauty of Barkley; people slander the analyst whilst forgetting the greatness of the player.

Here, we rank the top-5 members of the “I dislike Charles Barkley Club.”
