How is it that the Sacramento Kings have DeMarcus Cousins, Rajon Rondo and Rudy Gay and still miss the playoffs? How have they missed the playoffs for 10 straight years, the second longest active streak?

This record is only surpassed by Minnesota Timberwolves who have missed the playoffs for 12 straight years.

Sadly, too much of the work is left to the Big Three. Cousins put up some amazing numbers this year. In 65 games, Cousins played the second most minutes for Sacramento (34.5 per game), averaging team highs in points (26.9), rebounds (11.5) and blocks (1.4) per game.

Cousins also finished second on the team in steals (1.6) and third in assists (3.6) per game.

Cousins’ work was so good that his scoring average was fourth in the league and his rebounding was fifth in the league.

Rondo had an amazing season after there were questions about whether he was past his prime or whether any team would want him after the Dallas incident where he argued publicly with head coach Rick Carlisle.

More from Sacramento Kings

Luckily for Sacramento, they took the chance. In his 72 games, Rondo played the most minutes per game for Sacramento (35.2). In that time, Rondo led the entire league in assists (11.6). He also led the team in steals (2.0), which was good enough for seventh in the league. He was third on the team for rebounds (6.1) and fourth in scoring (11.9).

Gay had another Rudy Gay year, high in production for not much return. He was third on the team for minutes played (34.0) and second in points per game (17.2) and rebounds (6.5). Gay was third on the team in steals (1.4).

Too much is being done by too few, so here are five roster moves that Sacramento need to make to get them back to the playoffs.
