Prospect #1: Nik Stauskas, SG, Michigan

Nik Stauskas Could Be An Option For The Timberwolves
Nik Stauskas Could Be An Option For The Timberwolves /

Why he’s the pick: Stauskas has an elite NBA skill: shooting. In a related story, the Timberwolves could really use some shooters on the wing. Stauskas, a sophomore last season, shot 44 percent from beyond the arc for Michigan while taking nearly six 3-pointers a game. He has been touted as a player with a high basketball IQ who can make the right pass when he needs to. This skill set fits in fantastically with what is an offense-heavy team in Minnesota. Stauskas could easily become a rotation player in his first year in the league.

Why he’s not: There are concerns about Stauskas’ defensive abilities, and the Timberwolves have a tough time stopping anybody as it is. While he is a great shooter, the 6’6” wing is not a great athlete; words that were written about guys like Jimmer Fredette and Adam Morrison. In the end, Stauskas projects to be a Kyle Korver-type at best, and for a team looking to get Kevin Love to stay it may not be the pick that entices him to do so.
