The Golden State Warriors are gearing up for a new season, but they should be keeping a close eye on a Portland Trail Blazers prospect in need of a new team.
2023 third overall pick Scoot Henderson has yet to live up to his elite potential and probably won't do so in Portland. After all, they have buried him on the bench behind Ja Morant, Damian Lillard, and Jrue Holiday.
Even if they start three-guard next season, there's no guarantee that Henderson will have a big role for the Blazers. As a result, the Warriors should seize the opportunity to trade for Henderson.

The Warriors could certainly use a player of Henderson's potential. Even if it might cost them, say, Moses Moody and a protected first-round pick. If Henderson can develop into the player we all hoped he'd be when he was initially drafted, the Dubs could have their eventual Steph Curry replacement.
Of course, three years into his career, Henderson hasn't shown all that much. Sure, he played well after coming back from an injury last season.
He also had a solid showing in the NBA playoffs, but he has largely been a disappointment thus far. Particularly as a finisher at the rim and struggling with turnovers
That's what makes it a gamble for the Warriors, but they should be taking big swings instead of playing it safe. If Henderson is indeed available, Golden State must trade for him. Otherwise, the Warriors are nowhere near being a playoff team.

The Dubs have one of the oldest teams in the NBA and feature four rotation players who are at least 35. Instead of getting younger, they barely made any moves to improve their roster this summer.
Yes, they attempted to trade for Giannis and sign LeBron James, but neither happened. Therefore, the Warriors must take a different approach to team building.
Otherwise, they could be in for a prolonged rebuild. Ultimately, if the Blazers are willing to part with Henderson and the price is right, Golden State should trade for him, hoping he finds his footing with the Warriors.
