It is no secret that the Golden State Warriors are looking to improve their roster around Stephen Curry this offseason. They were extremely active at February’s trade deadline, which included them checking in on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s trade availability. Golden State and Milwaukee ended up not doing a deal, but it showed that the aggressive nature of the Warriors’ activity.
The Warriors flamed out in the play-in this past season, with injuries derailing their season for the most part. Butler tore his ACL during the first half of the season, while Curry battled knee issues late in the year, and even though he returned, he was not really the same.
Golden State had a lot of question marks coming into the summer about whether or not they would reset or try for one more all-in run. With Steve Kerr returning as head coach on a two-year deal, it signals that the Warriors are going to go for it one last time in the Curry era. If this is truly the start of the Last Dance, then the perfect partner is out there.
LeBron James would be the perfect fit for Golden State
It is no secret that James is coming towards the end of his illustrious career and is set to be a free agent this summer. No one knows where the future Hall of Famer will play next season, but it is widely known that James wants to compete for one last championship.
And what better landing spot than the Bay, where he would have the chance to team up with Curry, who he won a gold medal with in 2024. The point guard is also rumored to be recruiting James.
Both players may be up there in age, but they are ageless wonders. Both of them can still play at a high level and take over games at a moment’s notice.
James missed time at the start of the season due to sciatica, but that did not stop him from averaging 21 points per game, seven rebounds, and six assists on 52 percent shooting.
James also had a strong playoffs, getting LA to the second round despite being without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves for most of that run.
James is exactly what the Warriors have been missing next to Curry. They need someone that can carry the offensive load alongside their star guard and get him easy looks throughout the game.
The duo showed impressive synergy at the Olympics in 2024, and that was after only a month of playing together and a handful of practices. Imagine what they could do over the course of a full season.
Golden State has to find ways to keep up in a competitive Western Conference and James would help them do that. They would be one of the oldest teams in the league, but no one would come close in championship experience.
