The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to be in the title mix this season because of the immense star power that they have on their roster. When you assemble Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, LeBron James, and Joel Embiid, you’re thinking title.

And this is a Sixers franchise that has not been to the conference finals or NBA Finals since 2001 and they have not won a championship since 1983. This a franchise that is starving for success.

This is also an organization that has been preaching “Trust the Process” for more than a decade, with almost zero playoff success to show for it. The bottom line is that this is a very crucial year for the Sixers.

Early on in the season, we have seen great things from this star-studded Philly group. However, there are some causes for concern.

The way the Sixers are winning is not sustainable

It is still very early in the season and it is obvious when watching the Sixers that they are still working out the kinks on both ends of the floor. When you have that much star power, the hardest thing is making everything work, from both a players’ and coach’s perspective as well.

For starters, they have had to come back from a double digit deficit in three of their wins this season. Their defense has looked solid, but they are giving up a ton of open rhythm easy looks to teams and at the rim as well.

Offensively, they are only 24th in offensive rating and their halfcourt offense has looked clogged at times. It seems that this team hasn’t figured out their spacing yet and Brown has been the most guilty of taking bad shots outside of the offensive process.

Philly’s lack of size has also been exposed, especially with their reserve group. They are 25th in rebounds per game and allow the fourth-most offensive rebounds per game in the NBA. They simply have not controlled the paint on either end of the floor.

The Sixers have a lot of time to fix their issues and they have the roster to do it. For a team that is thinking title though, these weaknesses could catch up to them sooner rather than later if they are not careful. 5-1 is 5-1 at the end of the day, but sustainability is also crucial.
