In what was supposed to be a gap year for the Boston Celtics, Jaylen Brown had one of his best individual seasons as a pro.
It led to him receiving All-NBA second team honors and despite missing Jayson Tatum for most of the year, Brown led Boston to 56 wins and the second seed in the Eastern Conference. It was one of the more impressive storylines in the NBA this year.
Despite all of that though, the Celtics flamed out in the first round of the playoffs to the Sixers and blew a 3-1 lead in the process. President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens also indicated in his end of season media availability that he has not liked how the team has performed offensively over the last two postseasons.
Changes came last summer for Boston and now, the same thing is expected to happen this summer. It could lead them to making a shocking move involving Brown and it should be one they make.
The Celtics should trade Jaylen Brown for Giannis Antetokounmpo this summer
The Milwaukee Bucks have been listening to Antetokounmpo trade offers for quite some time now, with a resolution expected to happen soon.Â
It is widely known that Antetokounmpo is looking to get back to competing for championships and reportedly has his sights set on staying in the East. Boston would be the perfect landing spot for him.
Him and Tatum would immediately form one of the most tantalizing duos in all of basketball. It would give the Celtics the dominating paint presence they have been lacking and Antetokounmpo’s driving abilities fit in perfectly with the team’s drive and kick philosophy.Â
President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens has also hinted at wanting to improve the team’s interior presence and there is no better player for that than Antetokounmpo.
Trading Brown away would be tough, but Boston has actually been a better team statistically with him off the floor over the last couple seasons, including the playoffs. It is also telling how much his impact craters without Tatum. Also, given his comments about this year being his favorite season of his career, where he got to dominate the ball as the first option, it may be time to move on now before potential frustrations later.
The Celtics are set to be serious players in the East once again, regardless of whether or not they trade Brown for Antetokounmpo. However, if they were to acquire the former MVP, their championship odds would increase and Boston would have top of the best players in the sport leading the way.
