LeBron James signing with the Philadelphia 76ers sent shockwaves throughout the NBA and capped off an aggressive for the Sixers that also included a blockbuster trade for Jaylen Brown.
Philly already has Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and V.J. Edgecombe in the fold, so adding this much star power will make them a very tough out in the East. In the case of Maxey, he had one of the heaviest workloads in the NBA last season and it really took a toll on him by the time he got to the second round against New York.
Now that James is in town, the Sixers’ offense will look very different and that actually might be a great thing for Maxey.
Playing off the ball will help Tyrese Maxey’s game a lot
Maxey has really blossomed as an on ball player since his rookie days, especially given the blazing speed that he plays with. What goes unnoticed at times though is his off-ball ability.
Maxey’s shooting has turned into a real weapon os his and he also has great feel as a cutter. He just hasn’t been able to show off that ability much because he has operated as the Sixers’ PG for the last few seasons. Enter James.
James is one of the NBA’s all-time great playmakers and has played next to many great guards before. From Dwyane Wade to Kyrie Irving, he has been able to maximize talented guards throughout his career. He can do the same for Maxey. James’ impact on Edgecombe, Brown, and Embiid will be great as well, getting easier looks for them all offensively, and allow them to be lethal in the halfcourt.
James is on the record saying that a huge reason why he signed with Philly is because of how much he loves Maxey’s game, so it is pretty safe to say that he is going to be looking for him a lot offensively.
Prior to getting James, the Sixers were lacking a true playmaker that could keep the offense humming. Now that they have him, they project to have one of the more diverse and dangerous attacks in the league.
Expectations are high in Philly. You don’t build a team like this without having championship expectations. They have the star power to make it happen, even in a loaded Eastern Conference. With their superstar guard having a lighter workload, it should make them even more dangerous.
