4) Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took yet another step in his game last year, cementing himself as one of the five best players in the NBA. He was named to his second straight All-NBA first team, finished second in MVP voting, and led the Thunder to the first seed in a tough Western Conference.

Alexander is one of the best scorers in the NBA, as he had 51 games of 30 or more points and averaged 30 PPG for the second straight season. He also made strides as a playmaker, averaging a career-high in assists. He kept up his elite level of play in the playoffs as well, leading OKC to the second round where they lost to the eventual Western Conference champs Dallas Mavericks.

Alexander’s two-way ability is also impressive for a star of his caliber. He was near the top of the league in deflections and loose balls recovered amongst guards. With OKC adding Alex Caruso to their backcourt next to Alexander, his defensive game could be elevated even further playing next to an elite defender like Caruso.

Whether it’s for the Thunder or Team Canada in FIBA competition, SGA is one of the best and most efficient players in the world right now. Barring injury, he will almost assuredly be in the MVP conversation once again.
