All eyes are on San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama, who appears poised to become a top-3 player this season. He could almost single-handedly propel the Spurs into playoff contention, with him already showing some impressive improvements during the preseason.

Nevertheless, perhaps the biggest change in his game may be more physical. Wembanyama has not only gotten far stronger—gaining more than 40 pounds since being drafted—he has gotten even taller too. He was previously listed at 7'3", but his height has since been changed to 7'5" by the Spurs.

However, that already seems to be an understatement. Former NBA bigman Boban Marjanovic appeared on ESPN recently and mentioned that Wembanyama was taller than him. NBA insider Brian Windhorst echoed those statements.

Marjanovic, a former Spur, was listed at 7'3" during his career, so Wembanyama being noticeably taller than him is intrigue. That has led to speculation that he is actually 7'7".

Victor Wembanyama's height is both a gift and a curse for the Spurs

Wembanyama, having grown from a listed height of 7'3" to 7'7" in a span of a year, is both impressive and concerning for the Spurs. Having a 7'7" behemoth is obviously a huge competitive advantage.

Especially with the player who is as talented as Wembanyama, who has the potential to be the best player in the NBA, thanks to his dominance on both sides of the floor. Even so, Wembanyama just missed the last seven months of basketball after recovering from deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which was blood clots in his shoulder.

DVT can be career-ending, and taller players are more susceptible to that condition. Even if Wembanyama doesn't have any more problems with DVT, he may be the tallest player the NBA has ever seen.

Victor Wembanyama could be an all-time great or an all-time "what if"

To be clear, if he were merely 6'11", he would still be one of the most talented players in the NBA, with him being an elite defender and burgeoning offensive superstar.

Of course, his height only accentuates his strengths as a player. His length and height make the prospect of shooting anywhere near him seem foolish, with him almost certain to block the shot.

Offensively, he is an ever-improving shooter who is also ambidextrous. His being able to shoot clear over another 7-footer is a huge advantage and one that could soon be virtually impossible to stop.

Even being able to double-team him will soon seem like an awful decision, considering he is already a good passer, but his height makes it far easier for him to see over defenders and deliver perfect passes to cutting teammates. He's literally a create-a-player from 2K with the attributes all maxed out.

That being said, it really could go either way in terms of his career. He could become an all-time great or an all-time "what if," with his height becoming an increasing concern. Let's all hope for the best.
