The 76ers new addition is making it impossible to leave him out of the rotation

Philadelphia 76ers fans have a lot of reasons to be excited for in the upcoming 2024-25 season. They added nine-time All-Star Paul George as well as revamped their bench to help stars Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid. One of those new additions was Guerschon Yabusele, who previously washed out of the NBA before having a successful career internationally.
While Yabusele entered the preseason third in the projected rotation, his strong preseason debut makes it virtually impossible for Sixers head coach Nick Nurse to leave him out of the rotation now. In just 17 minutes against the Briz Breakers, he scored an impressive 15 points on 6-6 shooting, including hitting a three.
Guerschon Yabusele can help the Philadelphia 76ers this season.
That efficient display should help him in his quest to be the Sixers' backup power forward over KJ Martin entering the season. Considering that he signed for the minimum later on in free agency, the fact that he could make the Sixers rotation underscores how well they did this summer.
Yabusele is a burly 6'8, 265-pound power forward who has both good size and versatility and is a big and physical player. He also has perimeter skills, including being able to hit threes, which is a must if he were to share the floor with Embiid.
He will have to prove that his outside shot can translate to the NBA after spending the last five seasons playing in a league that had a shorter three-point line. Still, he shot a solid 40.6% during that span.
The NBA line is approximately a foot further out and some international players have had problems adjusting to the difference. If he can, however, then he would be a nice backup to Caleb Martin and give them a different look than what Martin will be able to provide them.
Adding Yabusele to the mix would solidify their rotation around their big three of George, Maxey, and Embiid. With players such as Yabusele, the 76ers should be in a far better position to compete in the loaded Eastern Conference.
After watching the loaded Boston Celtics dominate en route to a championship last season and the New York Knicks reload during the summer, the Sixers managed to keep pace. Whether they will be as good as the Celtics and Knicks remains to be seen, but players such as Yabusele can make all the difference.
