8) David Wood

Forward David Wood spent seven seasons in the NBA and like many on this list, his career took an unusual path. He went undrafted in 1988 and briefly signed with the Chicago Bulls, logging two total minutes in two games. Wood then spent the first of two seasons playing in Spain before returning in 1990 to play for the Houston Rockets, where he managed to carve out a small but consistent role as their backup small forward.

Although he played reasonably well and appeared in every game, he returned to Spain before signing with the San Antonio Spurs in 1992–93. Wood lasted 64 games there, then spent time with the Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors, and Phoenix Suns before appearing for the Dallas Mavericks during the 1995–96 season.

Wood managed to average a career high in minutes with 17.5 per game but didn't shoot the ball particularly well, hitting just 43.5% of his shots and failing to earn a larger role in Dallas. Wood's career ended the following season as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks, but not before he was able to tally 183 career games for the Rockets, Spurs, and Mavericks.
