On the Brink: Predicting the fates of 16 borderline NBA Hall of Famers
By Cal Durrett
13) Derrick Rose
Perhaps the most polarizing Hall of Fame case belongs to Derrick Rose. Rose has played 15 years in the NBA thus far but only three of those seasons have been Hall-worthy. Rose won Rookie of the Year in 2009-10 and two years later won MVP, making him the youngest player ever to win that award.
He led the Bulls to the best record in the NBA that year and again the following year, though he tore his ACL in the 2012 playoffs.
That cost him all of the following season, and a meniscus tear cost him most of the 2013-14 season. After those injuries, he wasn't the same explosive player he was before and he was later traded to the New York Knicks. He was mostly injured there too but did have a solid 2016-17 season in which he averaged 18 points per game.
He also had a 50-point game as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves. With three all-stars, two all-NBA appearances, and an MVP, Rose doesn't have a typical Hall of Fame resume. Then again, no MVP winner has ever made it in. Still, he doesn't have enough seasons of elite play to make it in. As a result, Rose shouldn't make the Basketball Hall of Fame.
