NBA Trades: Would the Hawks accept this deal?
If the Hawks are in rebuilding mode, they need to recoup the assets that they lost in the Murray trade two years ago. They did acquire two first rounders from New Orleans, but trading Young could fetch them multiple firsts as well, despite interest in him around the league waning.
Atlanta has essentially admitted that they made a mistake in trading for Murray two years ago by sending him to New Orleans for less than what they gave up for him. They need to dive head first into their rebuild and trading Young would be another step in the right direction.
Keeping Young around doesn’t really make sense, especially given his contract. Why pay max money to an All-Star when you are not ready to contend at this moment in time? Additionally, in this trade the Hawks receive two first round picks: one in 2025 and another in 2027. If they were to accept this trade they would have three first round picks in 2025, with two of them being unprotected.
Atlanta also gets a young athletic scoring guard in Cole Anthony that could be a part of their rebuild or traded to a contender for more assets. They also get a young intriguing wing in Caleb Houstan, who has not seen much opportunity in Orlando, but could develop into a solid 3 and D wing.
The Hawks would likely accept this deal as is, given the fact that they accepted a similar package for Murray and Young’s value around the league seems to be lower than anticipated as well.
