NBA Trades: Spurs and Pelicans add starters; OKC lands a star in potential Jazz deal

Despite the San Antonio Spurs, Utah Jazz, New Orleans Pelicans, and Oklahoma City Thunder having differing goals, this bold 4-team deal would help each team.

Would the New Orleans Pelicans agree to the deal?

The Pelicans are still searching for frontcourt help and, thus far, have failed to turn star Brandon Ingram into a starting center. In this deal, they would land one in Walker Kessler, however, it would cost them. The Jazz appear to be looking for multiple firsts for Kessler and while he is a terrific rim protector, that may be a steep price for most teams. However, the Pelicans still have enough assets to consider making the deal.

For one, Kessler is only 22 years old and is still on his rookie contract, which will pay him just $7.8 million over the next two seasons since he was selected 22nd in the 2021 NBA Draft. That would make a potential extension all the more affordable when that time comes.

Getting a potential long-term answer at center for two firsts might be worth it if it means that the Pelicans don't have to worry about that position going forward. Moreover, with three 2025 firsts at their disposal and can offer up their pick and the Lakers' pick.

While his fit with Zion Williamson may be questionable, if the Pelicans start both Trey Murphy and Herb Jones along with Dejounte Murray, then they could build a strong defense with Kessler helping to anchor it. With few other options, New Orleans should strongly consider the move.
