NBA Trades: Spurs and Pelicans add starters; OKC lands a star in potential Jazz deal

Despite the San Antonio Spurs, Utah Jazz, New Orleans Pelicans, and Oklahoma City Thunder having differing goals, this bold 4-team deal would help each team.

Would the Oklahoma City Thunder agree to the deal?

It's no secret that the Thunder have more draft picks than they know what to do with and that makes them the perfect team to try and trade for Markkanen. The Thunder have already made a big trade by acquiring Alex Caruso to give them guard help and Markkanen would help them shore up their front court by pairing him with Chet Holmgren.

They, paired with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jaylen Williams, would make a terrific core four, with Markkanen being one of the best shooters in the NBA and able to play off-ball and still torch teams. Giving up three first-rounders, a first-round pick swap, three seconds, and Lou Dort is a lot, but they wouldn't actually be trading any of their own first-round picks, which is huge since they can still add cheap talent as they get better and more expensive.

Also, Caruso could replace some of what Dort does and moving Dort would help to offset some of what could be a five-year, $220 million extension for Markkanen. From a risk-reward perspective, the deal would be relatively low-risk and high-reward, with OKC possibly being the favorites to win the West if they were to agree to the deal, which they just might.
