NBA Trades: Detroit Pistons

After having the worst record in each of the last two seasons, the Detroit Pistons have seemingly tried to improve their roster by adding veterans like Tobias Harris, Malik Beasley, and Tim Hardaway Jr. to the rotation. That probably will only help them so much, but it appears to be a step in the right direction with them getting actual NBA players onto a team full of prospects.

They could continue that trend by looking to acquire a backup point guard who can also add more spacing. One trade would see them ship out backup center Isaiah Stewart to the Los Angeles Lakers for D'Angelo Russell and two second-round picks.

Russell is on an expiring contract and while he is a flawed player, he would actually be a good fit for Detroit. He set the Lakers team record with 226 made threes last season and is a talented passer. Even as a backup playing 20 minutes per game, he would still have a nice impact.

For the Lakers part, they need a starting center to pair with Anthony Davis. Stewart shot 38.3% from three last season and would give them a stretch five. Last season, the Pistons ranked 27th in offensive rating and 26th in three-point percentage, with the latter informing the former. More threes would help them improve their offensive floor and lead to more wins while also helping their young core develop.
