Mavs-Nets trade

NBA Trades: Dallas Mavericks

After a terrific offseason, the Dallas Mavericks can only do so much more to improve. Even so, they could continue to shore up their defense around stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. One such move to do so would be to send Maxi Kleber, Jaden Hardey, A.J. Lawson, and a 2031 pick swap to the Brooklyn Nets for former Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith.

Finney-Smith would give the Mavericks another three-and-d wing that they can throw out in the playoffs, joining Quinton Grimes and Nnaji Marshall in that capacity. Having multiple defenders who they can put on the other team's best players should help Dallas's team defense after ranking 18th in defensive rating last season.

If they can get that up closer to the league average, then that could help them get a higher seed during the regular season and have an easier path back to the NBA Finals. With an already much improved team that includes the additions of Klay Thompson, Marshall, and Grimes, the Mavericks already appear ready to return to the NBA Finals.

But re-acquiring Finney-Smith should help them build out their roster and ensure they have the depth to go the long haul.
