NBA Trades: San Antonio Spurs

After missing the playoffs for the last five years, the San Antonio Spurs should compete for a spot in the play-in tournament. The addition of Chris Paul could help to unlock Victor Wembanyama's full offensive potential and that may translate into wins. Nevertheless, they can use more offensive help, particularly shooting after ranking 26th in offensive rating and 24th in 3-point percentage last year.

That's where the Miami Heat come in. They have one of the best shooters in the NBA available and he'd make for an underrated trade target. One such deal may include the Spurs sending Keldon Johnson to Miami for Duncan Robinson and a 2028 top 8 protected first.

Despite concerns about his contract, Robinson will make less than Johnson over the next two seasons and would be a much better fit. He drilled a stellar 39.8% of his 7.0 career 3-point attempts per game and is a terrific movement shooter, which could help the Spurs score in the half court. Especially when paired with Wembanyama, who would be the perfect dribble handoff partner for Robinson.

Add in a 2028 top 8 protected first and that might be enough for the Heat to pry away San Antonio's longest tenured player. Johnson is the better player of the two and is both younger and has more upside but is a questionable shooter. Also, San Antonio's newfound depth on the perimeter makes him expendable. Therefore, he seems like he would be perfect for Miami's system, thus making it a possible win-win for both teams.
